James 'White Rose' Stewart - Jacobite

James ‘White Rose’ Stewart carries the proud name of one of Scotland's most famous families, with a touch of Highland character all his own.

Dressed in Stewart tartan and his striking red bonnet, James has the air of a Nome who knows a thing or two about ceremony, tradition and perhaps getting his own way.

They say James earned the name White Rose because he once followed a trail of white roses through the Highlands, convinced they would lead him to something important.

What he found at the end of the trail has been lost to history.

James, naturally, has never revealed the full story.

Some say it was a forgotten family treasure. Others say it was simply a particularly fine Highland tea room.

James has never confirmed either version.

One thing is certain, James Stewart is a Nome with a little royal swagger and a story worth hearing.

The White Cockade

Look closely at James's bonnet and you'll find a small white ribbon, a nod to the famous white cockade associated with the Jacobite cause.

During the Jacobite Risings, the white cockade became a recognised symbol of support for the Stuart cause. Worn on the bonnet, it served as a visible badge of allegiance,  a small but meaningful sign that the wearer stood with the Jacobites.

James's little white ribbon is our own Northern Nome interpretation of that historic symbol. So it isn't simply there for decoration, it carries a little piece of the story with it.

The Story Behind James

James belongs to the Clan Path, where the character and traditions of Scotland's great clans live on through a colourful cast of Northern Nomes.

A member of Clan Stewart, James wears his Stewart tartan with pride. His red bonnet gives him a suitably distinguished appearance, while his nickname, White Rose, hints at the stories and symbols surrounding the long and fascinating history of the Stewart name.

There is a touch of mystery about James.

Perhaps the white rose really did mark the beginning of an adventure.

Perhaps it was simply the first flower he happened to notice.

James has never been particularly interested in spoiling a good tale with unnecessary facts.
